Second Draft Chronicles

In my writing history there are two important dates. April 12, 2012 and July 10, 2014. The first is when I finished a rough draft of Guardians and the second, which was last Thursday, is when I finished my second draft. Even though it took over two years I am so happy with what I've done. It was not as easy as I thought and the two drafts are incomparable

When I finished the first draft I immediately posted on this blog. When I finished the second draft I started going back through it, trying to make additional edits. Because this time around I'm going to be having friends read Guardians. This is the first time in over a year that I'm going to let people look at Guardians. The reason is because I knew that the finished product I had was not going to be the final iteration of the story. While this draft isn't the final iteration either it's a lot closer to a finished product. And at this point I've spent almost four years on this story and it's time for some fresh eyes to read it.

I've learned so much about my own writing process through writing a second draft: way too much for one blog post. So I'm going to do the unthinkable: try to post for 4 straight days until I cover all the topics I want. Here is what I've been thinking about in writing a second draft:

1. Word count
2. Audience
3. Sections
4. Next steps

So stay tuned and join me while I chronicle the experiences I had while writing me second draft.
