Well, that's my relationship status with Guardians right now. It is so incredibly complicated that I don't know where to start. Literally. I've been starting at my outline for days and I don't know the next step.
The first draft feels almost like a phantom limb at this point. I know that I wrote it, I know that it's mine, but it's not exactly there anymore. The characters are the same, as is the general plot line but it's not there per se. By it I mean the story, or something approaching what will be the final story. Right now it's a patchwork quilt and I have to stitch everything together. Although honestly, I'm not quite sure if some of the pieces that I've written fit, and I have this nagging feeling that potentially everything won't work out, which is kind of scary.
Full discretion: I've let this post sit around for a few days too. Nothing seemed to flow, and if there was no progress with Guardians, there might as well not be any progress with this post. It does get easier, however. In this case, sticky notes make everything easier. Because the biggest problem was my laziness. I have all these notebooks and no idea which piece is in which notebook. So in about half an hour I flipped through all of them, labeled all the pages, and voila! At least something got done. Now the only thing I have to worry about is the stickies getting crushed...
